Alexander Stadium is one of the UK’s premier athletics stadiums and has been a host to several major events and held the Sainsbury's Grand Prix - Birmingham for the first time in 2011. The Stadium was built in 1975 and was open for training in 1976. It originally comprised of a track and main stand, which came into operation in 1978 and the stadium had a £1million refurbishment in 2000. The Alexander Stadium went under further £12.5 mllion redevelopment in 2011, when the new 5,000 seater Backstraight Stand was built, increasing the capacity to 12,700.
