Information on the West Midlands Athletics venue

Alexander stadium is one of the UK’s premier athletics stadiums and has been a host to several major events and will for the first ever year hold Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix. The Stadium was built in 1975 and was open for training in 1976. The stadium originally comprised of a track and main stand, which came into operation in 1978. The stadium had a £1million refurbishment in 2000 and come the opening of its recent renovation on 10 July, it will be rightfully be regarded as a world class athletics venue.

Not only will the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix be the first Samsung Diamond League event held in Alexander Stadium, but it will be the first ever time the venue is used after the major renovations currently taking place.

The building work which will see the capacity increased to 12,021 is well under way at the iconic stadium, but we have some exclusive projected images of the venue below.
