The latest of the Diamond League series and the first of the three UK-based Aviva Series meetings this summer, the West Midlands-bound spectators were treated to an ideal meet with quality world class performances and home-grown winners.

With Dai Greene, Mo Farah, Phillips Idowu and Jenny Meadows all taking popular victories, it was a superb feast of Sunday afternoon athletics action. 09.07.2011 - Olympic and World champions descend upon Birmingham

The Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix will host a field of international and domestic stars as the number one global athletics tour roars into the West Midlands on Sunday.

Of the 17 disciplines on show at the Birmingham Alexander Stadium 15 of them will contain a World or Olympic champion with more than 40 global medallists set to line up, enhancing the event’s status as one of the strongest in world athletics this year. more

09.07.2011 - Greene hails Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix as 'mini Olympics'

Dai Greene has called Sunday’s star-studded Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix a “mini Olympics” with the likes of Asafa Powell and Carmelita Jeter part of a world class field.

Greene will lead the British challenge at the Samsung Diamond League event in front of a sell out 12,700 crowd at the newly refurbished Birmingham Alexander Stadium. more

07.07.2011 - Aviva GB & NI stars eager to step out in new-look Birmingham Alexander Stadium

Olympic medallist and local hero Kelly Sotherton today gave members of the media an exclusive tour of the newly-renovated Birmingham Alexander Stadium ahead of its grand opening at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday.

Sotherton was joined by Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland teammates and fellow Birmingham locals Louise Hazel and Tom Parsons as members of the press had the chance to see first-hand the view that over 5,000 spectators seated in the new back straight stand will get this Sunday afternoon, as some of the world’s finest athletes come to town for leg nine of the Samsung Diamond League. more

07.07.2011 - Tamgho set to face to Idowu in Birmingham

World Indoor champion Teddy Tamgho has confirmed he will line up against Phillips Idowu in the triple jump at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix, enhancing the event’s status as one of the strongest fields in world athletics this year.

Tamgho will renew his rivalry with the reigning World and European champion Phillips Idowu, only 10 days after the Parisian’s victory in the Lausanne leg of the Samsung Diamond League. more

Former Olympic champion Denise Lewis has expressed her delight at the news that the first ever Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix at the Alexander Stadium has sold out, and has urged sports fans in the Midlands not to miss out on a new UKA initiative which will guarantee them tickets to see athletics in 2012.

European and Commonwealth champion hurdler Dai Greene has set his sights on becoming British record holder this summer, with two big opportunities on home soil when he lines up at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix and Aviva London Grand Prix as part of his preparations for World Championships glory.

The 25-year-old will look to stamp his authority on the track ahead of this year’s IAAF World Championships by breaking the British Record that has stood for almost 20 years. more

08.06.2011 - Collins and Williamson out to spice things up in Aviva Series 100m

Former world champion Kim Collins and World Championships relay bronze medallist Simeon Williamson are the latest names to be added to star studded 100m line-ups at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix and Aviva London Grand Prix this summer.

Both athletes will compete at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on 10 July while Williamson will go on to compete at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on 5-6 August, the only two-day meet in the Samsung Diamond League calendar. more

01.06.2011 - Aviva Series vaults through Birmingham

Pole Vault was the word on the street today as stars of the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad descended on Birmingham’s Victoria Square for a vaulting spectacular.

The event was staged to herald the arrival of the Aviva Series, with two high profile athletics events set to hit the city twice this summer. Hundreds of people watched in awe as Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Max Eaves led a star-studded line-up of ten British pole vaulters showcasing the gravity-defying stunts necessary to excel in the sport. more
